Ellis (Bud) Powers, Sr., age 85, of Gatesville passed away Tuesday, December 29, 2015. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 2, 2016 at Scott’s Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Greenbriar Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Friday, January 1, 2016 at the funeral home. Bud was born on December 19, 1930 in Mosheim, Texas to the late J.W. Powers and Alice Lawrence Powers. He was raised in the Valley Mills area. He moved to Gatesville in May 1995. Bud was a heavy equipment operator for Coryell County until his retirement. He was also a foreman for several different construction companies. Bud served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 8230. He enjoyed work and loved music, especially the fiddle. He bought and sold antiques and junk since his retirement. He never met a stranger. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Earl Powers, Jim Powers and Carrol Powers; and sisters, Calli Sue Bailey and Helen Lindberg. Bud is survived by his longtime companion, Jean D’Agostino; daughter, Kathleen Watts of Allen, Texas; son, Ellis Powers, Jr. of Hurst, Texas; sister, Glendal Bailey; brother, Larry Powers; grandchildren, Amanda Rovira, Logan Watts, Rebecca Powers, and Nathan Powers; great-grandchildren, Colton and Callie Rovira; and numerous nieces and nephews.
