Doris Sullins

Doris Sullins of Oglesby, Texas passed away on December 31, 2015 surrounded by her family. Funeral Services will be at 2:30 PM on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel with visitation an hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Post Oak Cemetery in Oglesby. She was born on June 6, 1926 in Oglesby along with her twin sister Dawn, to James and Ollie Everett. They were the youngest of five children. She attended Oglesby schools and graduated in 1944. Upon graduation, she worked with her parents in running Everett Grocery. On June 4, 1949, she married James Mooney Sullins of Oglesby in a double wedding ceremony along with twin sister, Dawn, who wed James Sheridan. In addition to helping her parents in their grocery store, she also helped her husband in running Sullins Brothers Grocery. She began working at the First National Bank in Oglesby prior to the birth of her only child in 1951. When her son began college, she resumed working at the bank, retiring in 1992 as Cashier of the Oglesby State Bank. Doris and James were lifetime supporters of Oglesby ISD and were active members of the First United Methodist Church where Doris served as Pianist for many years. She was also very active in the Oglesby Ex-Students Association and the Oglesby Lions Club. Doris was a loving daughter, wife, mother, sister, and grandmother. Her entire life revolved around her family. She made every event to support her son and grandchildren until eight years ago when Alzheimer’s took that ability from her. She has resided in The Welcome Program since February 2008 where she was taken excellent care of by her husband and countless health-care providers. Her family rejoices that she is no longer constrained by her failing body. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Helen Graves and Violet Vandiver, and brother James Everett. Surviving her is her very devoted husband, Shorty; her son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Sharon Sullins; her grandchildren, Lauren Seymour and husband, James, Lute Sullins and wife, Kristen, Payne Sullins; great grandson, Hudson Seymour; and sister, Dawn Barnes. Also surviving her is one nephew, Everett Vandiver and wife, Peggy; great nephew, Scott Everett and great nieces, Cindy Stone, Jodie Tilmon, Jamie Vandiver, and Kylie Everett. Memorials can be directed to the First United Methodist Church in Oglesby or the Oglesby Lions Club. Special thanks is extended to the Coryell Memorial Staff who have cared so diligently for her for almost eight years.
