Ruby Gilchrest, age 100 of Gatesville, passed away on Monday, Jan. 4, 2016 in Gatesville. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 10, 2016 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Wray Nunn officiating. Burial will follow at the Restland Cemetery. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Mrs. Gilchrest was born on Oct. 10, 1915 in Coryell County. She was the daughter of the late Joseph Elijah (Lige) and Dollie Love Braziel. She married Joseph Weldon (Curley) Gilchrest on Sept. 30, 1933. They resided most of their married lives in Turnersville and Gatesville. Her husband preceded her in death in 1958. After his death, she continued to raise their family working at Jones Cleaners for many years. In the late 1960’s, she began to work for TYC until 1975 when the Mountain View opened. She worked there until she was 75 years old as a correctional officer in special projects, retiring in 1991. She then continued to work for Professional Cleaners as a seamstress until 1998. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gatesville. She is survived by her daughters, Belva Perkins and husband, Sheldon of Evant, Cheryl Eary and husband, Delton of Gatesville; son, Jerry Gilchrest of Windsor, CT; seven grandchildren, Beverly Marwitz, Gay McCarty, Tim Eary, Misty Sielaff, Lacy Lopez, Elena Knutson, Leslie Mack; 18 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren.
