Ida Hill

Ida Mae Sherwood Hill, age 90, of Gatesville passed away Saturday, January 23, 2016. Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 28, 2016 at Restland Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at Scott’s Funeral Home. Ida was born on March 10, 1925 in Gatesville, Texas to Joseph Browning Sherwood and Stella E. Rose Sherwood. She attended school in Pidcoke and Cardin. She married Royal Hill on December 26, 1941. She was a talented seamstress sewing lots of pretty dresses and quilts. She enjoyed having large family gatherings at home, cooking Sunday dinner every week for everyone who wanted to come. She grew up with a large family including lots of cousins and family gatherings. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Flat and was very involved, as long as she was able, teaching Sunday school, VBS, and helping in the kitchen. She was preceded in death by her husband, Royal; son, Andy; brothers, Kensel, Ferman, James, Meade, Clyde, and Joe; sisters, Winnie, Oleta, Betty, and Mable. Ida is survived by her daughters, Shirley Nelson and husband, Charles, Judy Simpson, Janet Beggs and husband, Dale; son, Jackie Hill; grandchildren, Kevin Nelson and wife, Natalie, Matt Simpson, Josh Simpson and wife, Jessy, Natalie Sockman and husband, Marc, Jennifer Inge and husband, Jason, Randall Hill and wife, Christyn, Valerie Gonce and husband, Robert, and Kristy Beggs; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; and brother, Len Sherwood and wife, Rita.
