M. V. Hemphill, age 89, of Turnersville passed away Monday, Jan. 25, 2016. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 28, 2016 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel, with Brother A.C. Painter officiating. Burial will follow at Hemmeline Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service. M. V. was born on January 3, 1927 in Gatesville, to the late Elvin and Verna Necessary Hemphill. He married Lois Marie Sparks on Jan. 7, 1945. He served in the Army during WWII and was stationed in Okinawa, being discharged in 1952. He was self-employed as a licensed master plumber. He was called to preach the Gospel in 1954 and organized Westview Baptist Church in 1959. He served at Westview Baptist Church for 29 years and later assisted many churches all over central Texas as a supply minister. M.V. served his Lord and Savior faithfully for 61 years and at the time of his death, was the assistant pastor at Harmony Baptist Church. He was in the Coryell County Sheriff’s Posse for many years, serving as Chaplain and Treasurer. He enjoyed time with his family and church family as well as fishing, working with horses, playing music, and working. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Estil (E.E.) Hemphill; and son-in-law, Mark Robertson. M. V. is survived by his wife of 71 years, Lois Hemphill; son, Carroll Hemphill and wife, Linda; daughter, Sandy Robertson; brother, Wayne Hemphill; five grandchildren; Penny Byrd, Billy Hemphill, Cindy Wiley, Mark Brown, and Chris Brown; 10 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and two very special people he considered family, Brother A. C. and Patsy Painter. His family would like to express their appreciation to Hospice Compasses, Jennifer Clawson, Angela Garcia, Elsa and all of the staff, which he considered to be not only caregivers, but true friends.
