Joe Blakley, II, age 55, of Gatesville passed away Sunday, January 31, 2016 surrounded by his family at his home in Pearl. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 4, 2016 at Coryell Community Church in Gatesville, with Rev. Jess McCabe officiating. Burial will follow at the Pearl Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Scott’s Funeral Home in Gatesville. In honor of Joe, the family requests attendees wear western attire or uniform. Joe was born on August 16, 1960 in Gatesville. He grew up in Pearl and graduated from Gatesville High School in 1978. He attended college at TSTC, CTC, and Tarleton University. He was an underwater welder for several years, before starting a career at the Coryell County Sheriff’s Office. He received his Peace Officer Certification from MCC in 1985 and began working at the Sheriff’s Office as a dispatcher and jailer. He worked his way through the ranks, serving as a District Court Bailiff, Patrol Deputy, Narcotics Investigator, Criminal Investigator, and was the Chief Deputy from 2005 until his death. He was a former Coryell County Youth Fair Board member and a School Board Member for several years for Evant I.S.D. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jimmy Todd Blakley. Joe is survived by his wife, Kathy Blakley; daughter, Kally Blakley; step-daughters, Taylor and Haylie Dryden; parents, Howard and Faye Blakley; and two grandchildren, Jason and Adilyn Blakley.
