Desmond Wilcox, age 91 of Gatesville, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 20, 2016 at his home. Visitation will be from 5 to 6 p.m., Thursday, February 25, 2016 at Scott’s Funeral Home in Gatesville. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, February 26, 2016 at Grove Hill Memorial Park, 3920 Samuell Blvd. in Dallas. Desmond was born in York, England. He was a member of the York Minster Boys Choir. He served in the Home Guard at the beginning of WWII and when he turned 18, he was commissioned into the Royal Navy, serving until the end of the War, being discharged as Lieutenant Commander. He then joined Cunard Lines as a purser on board the recommissioned Queen Elizabeth and Queen Mary. He came to the United States in 1956 and married Eva Pierce. They settled in Dallas, she later preceded him in death. He began a career in real estate, where he became Vice President of Ebby Halliday Realtors, retiring to a second career as an antique wholesale importer for 20 years. His antique business took him and his partner, Brents Davis, all over Europe to export antiques. After a 39 year relationship, they moved to Gatesville in 1998. He is survived by his partner, Brents Davis; one niece and four nephews in England.
