Surrounded by his beloved family and in the comfort of his home, Kenneth W. Fowler, 63, of Jonesboro left this world to be with his Heavenly Father on Monday, February 29, 2016. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 3, 2016 at the First Baptist Church of Gatesville. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at Scott’s Funeral Home. Ken was born on February 15, 1953, in Waco, Texas to Robert and Alice Braden Fowler. At the age of eight, Ken was blessed to be given into the care of his beloved stepfather, Billy E. White. He graduated from Abilene High School in 1971. While attending McMurry University, Ken married Marsha Doby in March of 1972. They both graduated in 1977 at which time Ken began his 39-year coaching and teaching career. He worked his way into the hearts of his students, fellow staff, and administrators through his teaching, coaching, and relentless teasing. During his 39 year career, Ken coached football, basketball, track, tennis, and volleyball in Stamford, Hereford, Odessa, Water Valley, Menard, Winters, and Gatesville. His passion for grammar, literature, and writing built the foundation for Ken's teaching technique in the classroom. His love of his students, hilarious antics, and his unique nicknames were the root to his success. Ken was a member of First Baptist Church Gatesville and was ordained as a deacon in September 2014. He and Marsha taught RA’s on Wednesday evenings and were active in Small Groups. Ken also enjoyed running the soundboard on Sunday's. The couple also served God with the KidsHeart Mission in the Texas Valley each summer. Ken was preceded in death by his father, Robert Lyle Fowler; his maternal grandparents, John and Lois Braden-Henning; and paternal grandparents, Mae Padgett and A.W. Maultsby. Ken is survived by his wife of 43 years, Marsha Doby Fowler; his children: son, Jason Fowler and his wife, LaKesha Watts-Fowler, their five children, Cody “Codester”, LeAnne “LeeLee”, Jordan “Porkchop”, Jazmyn “French Fry”, and Jaxon “Pie Eater” and Erin; daughter, Marsi Ferris and her four children, Tyler "Fuzzy" Saucedo, Trace “Buck” Saucedo, Connor “Buckethead” Ferris, and Riley “Punk” Ferris; daughter, Amy Fowler-Joynes and her husband, Christopher Joynes and their son, Nicholas “Brick”; and son, Jackie Blane Fowler and his two sons, Ethan “E.T.” Hall-Fowler and Foster “Forster” Hall; his parents, Billy and Alice White; and siblings, Brenda and Dwayne Ratliff, Kirk and Paige White, and Tina and Jack Mester. Ken also bids farewell to many beloved aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Ken’s name to the First Baptist Church Mission Fund, 912 E. Main Street, Gatesville, TX 76528 or Gatesville Junior High Sound System Fund, or to Trinity Oaks, 9385 Miller Lane, San Antonio, TX, 78266.
