Henry Massirer, 89, of Gatesville passed peacefully to his Heavenly home on Saturday, March 5, 2016. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at St. John Lutheran Church, 10801 FM 929, Coryell City. Interment will follow at St. John Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday March 7, 2016 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Scott’s Funeral Home, 2425 East Main Street, Gatesville. Henry was born October 25, 1926 in the Prairie Chapel Community near Crawford, McLennan Co., Texas. He was the ninth of ten children born to his parents George and Ida (Sampert) Massirer. He was baptized into the Christian faith on September 20, 1940 at the age of thirteen years at Canaan Baptist Church. Henry always had a strong faith in his God. On December 31, 1966 Henry and Esther Richter were married at St. John Lutheran Church, Coryell City. Henry was confirmed on November 12, 1978 and became a member of St. John Lutheran Church. He has served on the church council at St. John. Henry had a beautiful voice, loved to sing, and church members enjoyed listening to him sing on Sunday mornings. Henry worked hard all his life as a farmer and with feed and seed companies in McGregor for a number of years. He retired on October 25, 1988. He and Esther moved from the farm to Gatesville in 1987. Henry was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Esther; and eight of his sisters, Hulda Massirer, Tillie Greenwood, Hildegard Massirer, Lena Carroll, Marie Ellison, Annie Weber, Edna Pick, and Eline Massirer. Survivors include his sister, Rose Massirer, several nieces and nephews, other family, and friends. Pallbearers will be Andy Carroll, Richard Harrell, Richard Roberson, John Luning, James Luning, and Robert Gohlke. Honorary pallbearers will be Blackston Bird and Van Massirer.
