Mary Evelyn Eubanks Voss, age 95, passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2016 in Gatesville. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Scott’s Funeral Home. Following the service, her cremains will be placed in the family plot at Townsen Cemetery, near Adamsville, in Lampasas County. Mary was born on October 27, 1920 in San Marcos, TX to the late Carl C. and Mary Fay Shurtleff Eubanks. She was valedictorian of the 1938 graduation class of Gatesville High School, as well as the Captain of the GHS Basketball team. Mary attended Baylor University for three years earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business and Education in 1941. While a junior at Baylor, she took advantage of the Civilian Pilots Training course and obtained her private pilot’s license. Mary Evelyn was a F.B.I. employee from 1941 to 1944, and an executive administrative assistant to a Houston Independent Oil Producer, Frank W. Michaux from 1945-1995. She married Harry Carpenter Voss in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on June 6, 1944, where he was stationed as an RCAF Pilot Instructor. In September of 1944, Mary and Harry returned to the USA and Harry transferred to the USAAF as a 1st Lt. P47 fighter pilot stationed on the island of Shemya in the Pacific for the duration of World War II. After the war, Mary and Harry lived in Houston for many years before returning to Gatesville for retirement. Mary Evelyn was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gatesville, and a past president of the Morris Federation. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harry; and sisters, Bobbie Fern Steakley, and Martha Fay McCoy. Mary is survived by one sister, Billie Margaret Eubanks Short; and several nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to Townsen Cemetery Association, c/o Mary McCann, 895 CR 3731, Lampasas, TX 76550.
