Sgt. Major Raymond Wynn, 70, of Purmela, passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2009 in a Temple hospital. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at the Boots and Saddle Cowboy Church, 8727 West Hwy 84 in Gatesville, with Rev. Brent Barnett officiating. The family will receive visitors from 6-8:00 P.M. on Saturday, May 9, 2009 at Scott’s Funeral Home in Gatesville. Mr. Wynn was born on April 8, 1938 in Mansfield, Massachusetts to the late Edward Richard Wynn, Jr. and Leola Mae Hebard Wynn. He was reared and attended school in Mansfield and Norton, Massachusetts. He joined the US Army in 1956, serving for 26 years before retiring as a Sgt. Major. He received many commendations during his military service. He spent 16 years working for TDCJ as a Correctional Supervisor at the Gatesville Unit. He moved to Purmela in 1995. He was a member of the VFW in Killeen, TX. Ray was a loving husband, a great father, and a beloved brother. He was a man of honor and was generous to a fault. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Jane Kulkowski, and brothers, Edward Wynn, Richard Wynn, George Wynn, and Robert Wynn. Raymond is survived by his wife, Jean Ann Wynn; sons, Steven Wynn and wife Barbara, and Randy Wynn and wife Mary; stepsons, James William Holley and wife Shelly and Buddy Holley and fiancé Cindy; sisters, Patricia Wynn, Eleanor Dale, Marcia Vierkant, Prisella Cabral, and Karen Allsop; grandchildren, Jessica Wynn and Simon Kendrick. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Scott & White Hospice.
