Jerry Lynn Dickie, 73, of Gatesville passed peacefully into eternity on May 11, 2016 at his home in the King community. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 14, 2016 at King Baptist Church, with Rev. Charles McKamie officiating. Burial will follow at King Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, May 13, 2016 at Scott’s Funeral Home in Gatesville. Jerry was born on May 15, 1942, he grew up around King, attending school first at Pearl and later at Gatesville, where he graduated in 1960. He married Juanita Hansen of Cranfills Gap on May 14, 1965. Jerry joined the National Guard shortly after high school, and retired in 1983 after 23 years of service, eight of those at M.A.T.E.S. He attended King Baptist Church from his childhood and served as deacon until his death. Jerry was happiest outdoors, cutting cedar or working on his tractor. He worked hard, but without deadlines to meet or a clock to punch, he just called it “piddlin’ around” the home place. He loved his family and friends most, and all who knew him remember him for his stories, his humor, and his simple way of life. He liked how the “old timers” did things, and he appreciated all that had been handed down to him. In the same way he worked to leave a heritage his family could enjoy and pass on to their children. Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Otis “Stump” Dickie, and sister, Jan Dickie Wright. He is survived by his wife of almost 51 years, Juanita Dickie; son, Mike Dickie and wife, Michelle of King; son, Mark Dickie and wife, Gabrielle of Waco; daughter, Misty Paniagua and husband, Armando of King; brother, Ted Dickie of Granbury; 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, along with many other relatives and friends. Memorials may be made to King Baptist Church, c/o 601 CR 135, Gatesville, TX 76528 or to King Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 298, Gatesville, TX 76528.
