Jackie Hill, age 84, of San Antonio, formerly of Gatesville, passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2016 in San Antonio with her son, David, by her side. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 28, 2016 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Restland Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral services. Jacqueline Claire Lewalling was born in Clovis, New Mexico to Leonard Lewalling and Mozelle Brasher Lewalling on August 3, 1931. She moved at an early age to Kansas City, where her father worked for the newspaper, and later to Oklahoma City. When she was nine years old, she came to live with her grandparents, George and May Brasher, in Pancake, Texas. She graduated from Jonesboro High School and married Elwood Hill in 1948. They lived in Gatesville where he worked for the Sheriff’s Department until 1957 when they moved to Odessa where he was a city policeman, probation officer, and deputy sheriff. For years Jackie supported him while he was General Manager of The Odessa Chuck Wagon Gang, who fed hundreds of thousands all across the United States and Canada. He was later Sheriff of Ector County. She was a good wife, and she and Elwood enjoyed cooking and entertaining their friends and co-workers. Jackie was employed by the National Bank of Odessa where she proved to be an asset. Approaching the city of Odessa from any direction you would find Jackie’s pretty face on a billboard welcoming the traveler to the city. Some years later she resigned to assist Elwood in their Catfish Hill Restaurants in Odessa and Andrews and the Red Barn in Jonesboro, which they operated until he died in 1987. She later worked at the National Bank of Gatesville until she retired. In later years, she lived with her daughter-in-law, Sally Hill, in Jonesboro and recently with David in San Antonio. They had four sons, David, Doug, Danny, and Dennis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elwood in 1987; son, Douglas in 2004; and granddaughter, Lydia Osborn. She is survived by her sons, David of San Antonio, Danny and Dennis, both of Odessa; daughter-in-law, Sally Hill of Jonesboro; grandsons, Justin and Brice Hill of San Antonio, Coy Hill of Odessa, Adam Hill and wife, Christen of Reynolds, Illinois, Josh Jones and wife, Natalie of Laredo; granddaughters, Nikki Harris and husband, Matt of Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and Shawna Hill of Gatesville; great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Kamryn, Tyler, Braden, and Jackson Hill, Caden Suits, Jadrian Reyes, Adrianna and Sophia Jones; sister, Christina Asbell of Upper Marlboro, Maryland; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Johnson and husband, Clifford; and brothers-in-law, Neil Hill and wife, Joan, Tommy Hill and wife, Mable Ann, Grady Hill and wife, Mary, and Bobby Hill and wife, Peggy. She was loved by many nieces and nephews, family, and friends, including Hershell and Renee Mooney and the late, Sonny Adams. Jackie will be missed for her cute, infectious giggle, which is carried on by her granddaughter, Nikki.
