Doris Herring, age 73, of Gatesville passed away Thursday, June 23, 2016. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel, with Minister Loyd Hall officiating. Private interment will follow at Ballard Cemetery. Doris was born on November 23, 1942 in Baird, Texas to the late Oscar and Murl Dickerson Watson. She grew up in Clyde, Texas and married John (Bill) Herring, Jr. on September 19, 1960. She completed nursing school at Coryell Memorial Hospital and became an L.V.N. in 1981. She worked as a nurse at the Rotunda and Hillside Manor Nursing Home. After she retired from nursing, she began taking care of children in their home for many years. She loved quilting and flowers, whether growing or receiving them. She loved her family dearly and her church family at Gatesville Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents; father and mother-in-law, John (Bill) Herring, Sr. and Dovie Herring; granddaughter, Kayla Campbell; brother, Butch Watson; sister, Faye DeSpain; brother-in-law, Floyd Herring; sister-in-law, Helen Herring. Doris is survived by her husband of 55 years, John (Bill) Herring, Jr.; daughters, Joanie Campbell and husband, Mike, Ginger Belknap and husband, Dody; son, Doug Herring and wife, Cheryl; sisters, Nell Thomas and husband, Bob, Helen Holman and husband, Jim; 10 grandchildren, Jason, Becca, Megan, Maeci, Kolbie, Doran, Brandy, Adreanna, Philip and David; and numerous great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to her church, the Gatesville Church of Christ, 2417 E. Main Street, Gatesville, TX 76528.
