Joseph Richard Van Y, Sr.

Joseph Van Y, age 90, of Gatesville passed away Monday, June 27, 2016. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, June 30, 2016 at Scott’s Funeral Home with burial following at Lam Cemetery. Joseph was born on February 16, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois. He joined the United States Navy when he was 17 and served for over 20 years before retiring. For the next 30 years he specialized in golf course irrigation systems all over the world and loved to talk about it. He married Linda Lawson in 1967 and provided faithfully for her and her children. Joseph was crazy about her until her death in 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Linda Van Y; and a daughter, Diana Gibson. Joseph is survived by his daughters, Christy Burford and husband, Paul, Kathy Chambers and husband, Steve; and a son, David Allen; 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
