Ms. OD Hammock, 94, passed away on Saturday, July 2, 2016 surrounded by her family at home. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at Mt. Calvary Church of God in Christ in Gatesville with burial following at Restland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Friday at the funeral home. Ms. OD was born on April 3, 1922 in Jones, LA to the late Lewis and Florence Jackson Ford. She attended school in Bastrop, LA. She moved to Brooklyn, NY when she was 22 and lived there for almost 30 years. Ms. OD worked as a telephone operator and also had an entrepreneurial spirit that led her to owning and operating a variety store with her late husband. In 1972, she moved to Gatesville to be near her nephews and start a new life in Texas. She worked at the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company before becoming a correctional officer. After her retirement, she worked for another 20 years at Wal-Mart where she received many awards. Ms. OD was a faithful member of Mount Calvary Church of God in Christ. She also enjoyed TD Jakes’ ministry. Ms. OD will be remembered for her firm but loving approach to life. Ms. OD was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, James Ford and Kenneth Ford; sister, Evelyn Ford Miller and a son-in-law, John McMullen. Ms. OD is survived by her daughters, Beverly P. Ford, Pamela Tate-McMullen, Daleya D. Johnson, Elorie C. Tate; six grandchildren a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives and friends. The family would like to express special thanks to Coryell Memorial Hospital, Kindred Hospice and all those who offered support and kind words during her illness.
