Lila Garcia Ortega

Lila Garcia Ortega, 76, of Gatesville, passed away on June 9, 2009 at her residence. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 A.M. Thursday, June 11, 2009 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Gatesville. Burial will follow at Restland Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6-8:00 P.M. on Wednesday at Scott’s Funeral Home. Lila was born on January 15, 1933 in McLennan County, Texas to the late Manuel and Andrea Flores Garcia. She grew up and attended school in Gatesville. She married Jim E. Ortega on January 9, 1950. Lila worked in Food Service for the Rotunda Nursing Home, the Texas Youth Commission, and the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. She attended the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Manuel Garcia and Louis Garcia, and her grandson, Bruce Alan Ashley. She is survived by her husband, Jim Ortega; children, Dolores Ortega-Carter, Diana Bigley and husband David, Aubrey Ortega and wife Tammy, Ralph Ortega, Pat Ortega and wife Janet, and Johnny Ortega; brothers, Salvador Garcia and Thomas Garcia and wife Margaret; 15 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and her beloved puppy dog Sissy.
