Mr. Troy Amos Comer, age 83, of Gatesville, passed away on June 23, 2009 at his residence. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Thursday, June 25, 2009 at Scott’s Funeral Home, with visitation an hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at the Pearl Cemetery. Amos was born on January 27, 1926 in Purmela, Texas to the late Jim and Elva Buckner Comer. He grew up in the Purmela Community. He was in the US Army and received an Honorable Discharge in 1948. He married Latrelle Bynum on August 10, 1951. After his time in the Army he worked several jobs for Troy Lee Hunt, Weldon Jones, Walter Schaub, Hollingsworth and Rocketdyne. He then worked for 28 years for Special Services at Ft. Hood, building and running Clear Creek Golf Course. After retirement Amos took a much lower paying job at Comer Automotive, BUT he was in full charge. Many people remember Amos as Trail Boss in the annual Riding Club Trail Ride. Amos loved his horses, dogs, livestock, including all the B.S. that went along with it, but above all he loved his grandkids and great grandkids, and I think his kids also. Amos is survived by his wife, Latrelle Comer; daughter, Nancy Comer and longtime friend Bob Thomas; son, Monte Comer and wife Gay; grandchildren, Misty Smith and husband Patrick, Alan Comer and wife Amy; great grandchildren, Trevor Smith and Teagan Comer; and his brother Jimmy Don Comer and wife Peggy and children. In Lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorials be made to the Pearl Community Center, C/O Ronald Medart, 820 CR 153, Purmela, TX 76566 or to charity of one’s choice.
