Charles Ray Young, age 76 of Jonesboro, passed away on September 7, 2016 in Temple. Private Family Graveside Services will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at Jonesboro Cemetery. Charles was born on April 27, 1940 in Jonesboro to Elizabeth Yows Young and the late P.R. (Sonny Boy) Young. He grew up and attended school in Jonesboro, graduating from Jonesboro High School in 1958. He received his B.A. Degree from Texas Wesleyan College in 1962. After graduating college, he taught for one year at the Gatesville State School for Boys. In 1963, he joined the Texas Army National Guard and was called up for active duty, during the Vietnam War. After his discharge, he taught for several years in the Copperas Cove I.S.D. until 1970, when he began farming the family farm until his retirement. He married Terry Hilger in June 22, 1974. Charles had a great love for the farm, fishing and studying history. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Stanley R. Young. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Terry Young; son, Greg Young of Taylor; mother, Elizabeth Yows Young of Gatesville; brother, James Young and wife, Sharon of Harker Heights; sisters-in-law, Sandy Harvey and husband, Charley of Clear Lake, Patty Doyle and husband, Darrell of Cold Springs; brother-in-law, Seymour Evans and wife, Kay.
