Verda Bell Calhoun

Verda Bell White Calhoun age 90, passed away Thursday, July 16, 2009 at a local hospital. Services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Saturday, July 18, 2009 at Purmela Baptist Church with Joshua Breslaw officiating. Burial will follow at Murphee Cemetery in Evant. Visitation will be from 12 noon until services time at Purmela Baptist Church. Verda was born January 16, 1919 at Bee House, Texas to Henley White and Nancy Ellen Barrett. She was saved at the age of 5 and joined the church when she was 6 years old. Verda married Don Carlas Calhoun on October 19, 1936. They were married 62 years. She was a Sunday School Teacher and worked in the church kitchen, nursery and lead the booster band. Verda worked with Don taking care of the farm till she went to work at The State School for boys. She was the last surviving child of 4 brothers and 4 sisters. Survivors include daughters; Donie Sue Myers and husband Sam Andrew, Verlene Wagner and husband Raymond Charles, five grandchildren; Andrew Myers, David Ray Myers, Brenda Jeffers, Ellen Myers and Deborah Fugitt and 11 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, and two grandchildren; Carla Tawater and Randy Gale Wagner.
