James Earl Munday

James E. Munday, age 85, of Gatesville passed away on Saturday, November 5, 2016. Funeral Services will be at 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at Scott’s Funeral Home with burial following at Restland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Friday at the funeral home. James was born on April 8, 1931 to the late Vernon and Orene Smith Munday. He graduated from Star High School and joined the United States Army in 1952. He served for three years during the Korean War. James married Jeanne Marie McCraw on December 6, 1958 in Arlington, Texas. They lived in Gatesville and together they owned Munday’s Laundry and Dry Cleaning for many years. James went into the trucking business before retiring in 1992. He later drove a bus part time for GISD. James was a founding member of Eastwood Baptist Church. Throughout his life, James loved to farm and ranch on his ranch near King. In his later years, James raised sheep and goats which were like pets to him. James also was a volunteer at the Gatesville Care Center. James was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of almost 50 years, Jeanne Marie Munday; a daughter, Kathy Stobaugh; and a brother, Merlin Munday. James is survived by his son, Mark Munday and wife, Helen of Gatesville, Chris Munday and wife, Keitha of Arlington; brother, Butch Munday and wife, Sue; two sisters, Veleria Donahoo, Verenia VanWinkle; eight grandchildren, Krystal Hatfield and husband, Gabe, Melissa Steffey and husband, Josh, Brittany Streetman and husband, Jess, Brandon Munday, Megan Munday, Courtney Chipman, Charee Humphreys and husband, Trevor and Tommy Stobaugh; six great-grandchildren; and his special friend, Henrietta Bone. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Eastwood Baptist Church, 2518 Main Street, Gatesville, TX 76528 or the Gatesville Senior Center, 2508 N. Lutterloh, Gatesville, TX 76528.
