Rev. W. Walter Rose, age 87, of Mound passed away at home surrounded by his family on Sunday, November 6, 2016 after a seven year courageous battle with Multiple Myeloma. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at Scott’s Funeral Home with Dr. Bruce Cox and Red Colquitt officiating. Rev. Rose was born on December 29, 1928 to the late William Wyley and Aldine Strickland Rose in Mineola, Texas. Walter graduated from Greenwood High School in Greenwood, LA. He received his Bachelor’s degree from Howard Payne University in Brownwood, his Master’s degree from University of Houston, and his LUTC degree in insurance. Walter was also a member of the Masonic Lodge throughout his life. He was called into ministry and began pastoring churches in 1949. Walter married Jean Plummer Myatt on August 23, 1980. They served five summers as the pastor at Desert Pines Resort in Show Low, AZ. He pastored many Southern Baptist Churches throughout South and Central Texas and the last 28 years in Coryell County. Walter was also the assistance manager of Bell County Farm Bureau in Temple and was an agent at Temple Insurance Agency. Walter was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Rev. Larry Rose, and his beloved Yorkie “Korkee”. Walter is survived by his beloved wife, Jean Rose; children, Bill Rose and wife, Marilyn, Mark Rose and wife, Jennifer, Cheryl Grant and husband, Bob, Wade Myatt and wife, Yolanda, Missi Myatt and partner, Janae Crepeau; brothers, Wyley Rose and wife, Peggie; Jack Rose and wife, Margaret; sister-in-law, Joyce Rose; grandchildren, Georgia, Andrew, Danna, Soloman, Zach, Josh and wife, Amber; and one great granddaughter, Malina and her mother, Mayra Morales; and a host of relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Latham Springs Baptist Encampment, 134 PR 223, Aquilla, TX 76622.
