Laura Elizabeth Jameson Wooten died peacefully in her sleep at home in The Grove, Texas on Sunday, December 11, 2016. Funeral services will be at 10:00am, Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in The Grove, Texas, with Rev. John Heckmann officiating. Visitation and fellowship with family will be at the Family Activity Center at St. Paul Lutheran Church following the service. Graveside services will be at 10:00am, Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at Dumas Cemetery in Dumas, Texas, with Rev. Jerry Howe of Dumas First Baptist Church officiating. Laura was known as Beth, Tinker, Tink, Laura, Aunt Beth, Mrs. Wooten, Mom, and most affectionately, as Meemaw. Laura was born in Dalhart, Texas on September 25, 1921 to Charles Jerome Jameson and Lura Myrtle Thompson Jameson. Her parents were charter members of First Baptist Church in Dumas, where Laura made her profession of faith in Jesus Christ and was baptized. She attended school and graduated from high school in Dumas, and then attended Baylor University. She was married to Curtis Wooten in November, 1941, who preceded her in death in October, 2000. They had two children, Barbalee Wooten Symm, and Sheri Lynn Wooten Williamson. Most of her children’s growing up years were spent in Corpus Christi. Laura had a long and successful career in retail, retiring in 1983 when she moved to The Grove to be near her children and grandchildren. She attended St. Paul Lutheran Church with her family since she moved to The Grove, where she served as a lovely example of the Christian life to all people around her. Laura is survived by her daughter, Barbalee Symm and husband, Carl who have five children, John David Symm, Mark Symm, Susanna Symm, Mary Anne Symm Cessnun, and Daniel Symm. She is also survived by another daughter, Sheri Williamson and husband, Hugh and their daughter, Laura Williamson. In addition, she is survived by 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Memorials may be designated for the cleaning fund at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 220 The Grove Rd., Gatesville, TX 76528.
