Joyce Floyd, age 87, of Gatesville passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2016, surrounded by her family in Gatesville. Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at Hemmeline Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday at Scott’s Funeral Home. Joyce was born on December 14, 1929, in Elkins, New Mexico to the late Omer and Annie Alberta Downs Bramblett. She was the oldest of five children. She lived in New Mexico until 1943, when her family moved to Levita, Texas. She attended school in Jonesboro, Texas. Joyce met John Floyd after he returned from World War II. They were married on July 15, 1946, and raised one daughter in the Gatesville community. Joyce attended Mary Hardin Baylor College and received her Bachelor’s degree. She taught school at the Mountain View School for Boys. She continued teaching while she attended Baylor University and obtained her Master’s Degree. She became a Counselor at the Mountain View School for Boys and later served as the Principal. Joyce enjoyed teaching Sunday School at the First Baptist Church of Gatesville. She loved to travel, read, and write historical books. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Floyd, three brothers, Monte McCoy Bramblett, Joe Edward Bramblett, Omer Albert Bramblett; one sister, Betty Jean Cannon; and two nephews, Monte Joe Bramblett and Adam Bramblett. Joyce is survived by her daughter, Cathy Tesch and husband Tim; grandson, Timothy Neal Tesch, Jr.; and numerous nieces and nephews and beloved in-laws.
