Meredith Ray Massingill, age 84, of Gatesville passed away Sunday, March 5, 2017. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at Scott’s Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Turnersville Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral services. Ray was born on March 6, 1932, in Evant, TX to the late Page Massingill and Bertie Kays Massingill. He attended Turnersville High School. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1951 and served in the Korean War. He worked for the Texas Dept. of Transportation and retired after 30 years of service. Ray married the love of his life, Wanda Lee Featherston, on June 2, 1954. He enjoyed flying, farming, Dallas Cowboy football, and bluegrass music. He was a member of Cedar Ridge Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Berta Mae Massingill; brother, Dale Massingill; and sons-in-law, Greg Woodson and Nelson Starr. Ray is survived by his wife, Wanda Massingill; children, Wynona Talbert of Clifton, Donna Starr of Lewisville, Gary Massingill and wife, Karen of Turnersville, Lynn Erwin and husband, Randy of Gatesville, and Kay Woodson of Gatesville; sister, Jo Dean Pryor of Temple; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
