Jean Hale, age 87, of Gatesville passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2017. Funeral Services will be at 1:00 PM Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at Scott’s Funeral Home with Lloyd Hall officiating. Burial will follow at Restland Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 5-7 PM on Tuesday at the funeral home. Jean was born on November 23, 1929 to the late John Frank and Grace Smith Shaw in Dawson, Texas. She graduated from Dawson High School in 1948 as the salutatorian. Jean went to Navarro College and received an associate degree. She married Amon Hale on November 6, 1951 in Dawson, Texas. They lived in McGregor for a short time before moving to Gatesville to start their wholesale candy business. They worked to together for almost 38 years suppling candy to businesses in the Central Texas area. Jean and Amon were longtime members of the Gatesville Church of Christ where she taught the toddler Sunday school for over 35 years. Jean was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved being a homemaker and always being able to support her children and grandchildren’s activities. Jean was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Amon Hale in 1996. Jean is survived by her children, Judy Jones and husband, Steve of Hewitt, Joe Hale of Sachse, Janet Blacklock and husband, Lanny of Temple; siblings, Frankie Berry of Alvarado, Virgina Hale of DeSoto, John Shaw and wife, Robin of Austin; six grandchildren, Cory Blacklock and wife, Emiko, Sean Blacklock and wife, Jessie, Amy Hess and husband, Griffin, Emily Cooper and husband, Isaac, Garrett Jones and wife, Paige, Haley Jones; great grandchildren, Seito Blacklock and Meyers Hess and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gatesville Church of Christ.
