Martha Pearl Barnett Whisenhunt, age 97, formerly of Turnersville, passed away peacefully Monday, April 3, 2017 in Willis, Texas, near her daughter and son-in-law, Fay and Bill Harrison. Visitation will be from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m., Saturday, April 8, 2017 at Scott’s Funeral Home in Gatesville, followed by a procession to Turnersville Cemetery for graveside services at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Gene Gurley officiating. Pearl was born on May 26, 1919 in the small town of Levita, Texas to the late John Barnett and Zora Shirey Barnett. A productive, hardworking Christian woman, Pearl's faith in God and love for her family, her church, and her work were an inspiration to all who knew her. She was a long-time member of First Methodist Church of Turnersville. Pearl worked as a seamstress at Wall's Manufacturing for over 25 years, as well as made cherished pieces of clothing for her family. Her love of color and pattern extended into her garden. Pearl’s vegetables and flowers nourished both body and soul. She was often accompanied by her chickens and her chow, Sandy. Miss Pearl loved to be in the garden with her Lord. She is walking in another garden now, where the blooms will be everlasting and the path has been made straight by her Lord. She was also preceded in death by husband, Troy Whisenhunt; son, Troy Lee Whisenhunt; and grandchildren, Mandy Whisenhunt, Laura Harrison, and Mark Baize; brothers, Johnny Barnett of Gatesville and Rufus Barnett of Levita; and sister, Dovie Crouch of Bryan. Pearl was loved and will be missed by her daughters, Fay Harrison and husband, Bill and Martha Baize and husband, Bobby; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Turnersville Presbyterian Church Restoration Fund, c/o Ed Leach, 2171 Hay Valley Rd., Gatesville, TX 76528.
