Maurine V. Adams

Maurine V. Adams, age 94, of Gatesville, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 3, 2009 at the Coryell Memorial Hospital Welcome Center. Services are scheduled for 10:00 AM Saturday, September 5, 2009 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Levita Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 PM Friday at Scott’s Funeral Home. Maurine was born July 17, 1915 in Levita, Texas. She was the daughter of the late Hill Murry and Lily Coleman Murry. She was the 3rd of 7 children at their home in Levita. She completed through 8th grade in Levita and went on to graduate high school in Ireland, Texas. She was a faithful member of the Levita Baptist Church for over 80 years. Maurine worked on the W.P.A. program in the cannery at Gatesville and later as a waitress at Meeks Café during her younger years. On December 26, 1938 she married (Si) Vernon James Adams of Purmela. They made their home in Levita. Maurine was a housewife, worked on the farm and also operated the switchboard for the Levita area. Later she worked at the sewing factory and also worked for the dietary department at Coryell Memorial Hospital for 24 years. She retired at the age of 77 and resided in the Gatesville area until her death. She was preceded in death by her husband Si Adams; sister, Ruby Rogers and 3 brothers, Bill, Talbert, and Bobby (Sonny) Murry. Survivors include sisters, Reva Whisenhunt of Mesquite, TX and Robbie (Sissie) Cox of Pecos, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
