Mildred McClellan, age 88, of Gatesville, passed away Friday, June 2, 2017 in Gatesville. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 5, 2017 at Scott’s Funeral Home, with Rev. Bruce Cox officiating. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to services. Mildred was born on December 8, 1928 in Scottsdale, Arizona to the late Sam and Iva Patterson. She grew up with her three sisters and three brothers in Scottsdale, before moving to Texas during her senior year of high school. After graduating from Gatesville High School, she moved with her family to Georgetown. She attended Southwestern University in Georgetown, where she had the honor of being Miss Southwestern University. During her time in Gatesville, she met Billy Clay McClellan. They were married at Highland Baptist Church in Waco. They resided in Waco until Billy Clay finished his degree at Baylor University. After his graduation, they returned to Gatesville and she worked for Dr. Tom Williams. She was always proud of her job assisting him as he designed oral mouth pieces for Medical Plastics Laboratory, along with brothers, Dr. Wendell Lowrey and Dr. Elworth Lowrey. She enjoyed helping Billy Clay and the folks at Leaird’s Department Store buying merchandise at the Dallas markets. Mildred was a kind, gentle, and patient person, always taking care of others. Her greatest joy in her later years was caring for her grandchildren. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Billy Clay McClellan; son, David McClellan; three sisters; and two brothers. She is survived by two sons, Clay McClellan and wife, Carolyn of Coryell City, Jeb McClellan and wife, Nancy of Gatesville; brother, Barto Patterson and wife, Judy of Horseshoe Bay; six grandchildren, Carly Latham and husband, Brandon of Gatesville, Kyle McClellan and wife, Summer of Ft. Worth, Dan McClellan and wife Denise of Golden, CO, Amelia McClellan of Austin, Leaird McClellan of Gatesville, and Trevor Bentley of Gatesville; six great-grandchildren; and her special friend, Don Flentge.
