Louise Mathews

Louise Mathews, age 92, of Gatesville, passed away Tuesday, June 20, 2017. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 23, 2017 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Turnersville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Louise was born on September 20, 1924 in Prosper, Texas in Collin County to the late A.D. and Martha L. Rutherford Spradley. She grew up and went to school in Turnersville. She married Robert (Bob) Mathews on October 12, 1946. She was a bookkeeper for many years for several businesses. Louise was an active member of the Ladies Golf Association, VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Gatesville Volunteer Fire Dept. Fire Belles, Gatesville P.T.A. and a member of the First Baptist Church. She enjoyed playing the piano by ear, golf, penny poker with friends, and going to her son’s sporting events. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband of 67 years, Bob Mathews in 2013; and 16 brothers and sisters. Louise is survived by her sons, Robert (Rusty) Mathews and wife, Linda, Mike Mathews and wife, Eva, and Ricky Mathews; daughter, Sandra Shepherd-Cain; four grandchildren, Jimmy Shepherd, David Shepherd, Kristi Hyde, and Charlotte Mathews; and nine great-grandchildren.
