Edith M. Faris, age 102, of Gatesville, passed away Sunday, July 2, 2017. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 6, 2017, at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Turnersville Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. There will be a reception after graveside at Turnersville Community Center. Edith was born on March 15, 1915 in the Friendship community, which is now North Ft. Hood, to the late Will and Lena Andrews York. Edith and her sister would ride a horse bareback to the school in the Friendship community. She married Jesse M. Faris on October 29, 1939, in Gatesville. Edith loved quilting and crocheting. She also loved playing 42. Edith loved to travel. She would take day trips all over. Edith was a caregiver, always calling and checking on folks. She was an avid member of Eastwood Baptist Church. If the doors were unlocked, Edith was there. She loved her family with all her heart. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jesse M. Faris; grandson, Keith Harris; sister, Pearl Blackford; and brother, Lonnie York. Edith is survived by her son, Jesse (J.A.) Faris and wife, Georgia; daughter, Wanda Harris, and husband, Al (Bubby); grandchildren, Mike Harris and Stephanie Gunter; great-grandchildren, Kyle and Shane Harris and Grace and John Gunter Jr. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Eastwood Baptist Church, 2518 Main Street, Gatesville, TX 76528.
