October 31, 1967 – June 3, 2017 Scott Choate, age 49, of Gatesville, passed away, Saturday, June 3, 2017. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 8, 2017 at Mound Cowboy Church in Leon Junction with the Rev. Jess McCabe officiating. Scott was born on October 31, 1967 in Dallas, Texas to Charles Choate and Betty Kraft Choate. He attended school in Gatesville. At age 16, he decided to live with Jackie and Jannetta Spencer and work for Jannetta’s father, Robert Pruett, in construction for several years. Later in his life he worked as a ranch hand for Bob Manning for 13 years, as well as John and Gayle Owens. He was an honest, hard-working Christian man. He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Kraft Brooks. Scott is survived by his father, Charles Choate; brothers, Steve Choate, Paul Choate and wife, Angie, and David Choate and wife, Debra; sisters, Janet Neyland and husband, Jimmy, Sharon Tye and husband, Randy, and Cindy Laws and husband, Carl; numerous uncles, aunts, nephews, and nieces; as well as his “adopted” family, parents, Jackie and Jannetta Spencer; brother, Brance Spencer and wife, Beverly; sister, Keva Spencer Campos and husband, Mike; closest uncle and friend, Robert Pruett; closest aunt and uncle, Paula Bomar and husband, Jerry; nephews, Chase McGhee, Bryce Spencer, Blaze Spencer, and Shay Choate and wife, Jodi, and Michael Choate; nieces, Blayne McGhee, Mika Campos, Brylie Spencer, Faith Choate, Chasity Choate, and Elizabeth Stubblefield; lots of favorite cousins, especially his fishing buddy and confidant, Jay Bomar, Lyle Bomar, and Joseph Argabright; and last but not least, his close friend, Tim Jackson.
