Betty Diana Ballard

Betty Diana Ballard, 88, of Copperas Cove, passed away on Monday, September 28, 2009 at a Lampasas hospital. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, October 2, 2009 at the Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel. Betty was born on May 26, 1921 in Pearl, Texas to the late Albert Virgil and Nellie J. Andrew Freeman. She grew up and attended school in Pearl, graduating from Pearl High School. She married William Travis Ballard on March 15, 1941. Betty worked as a Dietician for the Copperas Cove School District for almost 30 years. She enjoyed sewing and working crossword puzzles. She also loved going to family reunions at the Pearl Community Center. She was a member of the Pearl Methodist Church and Grace Methodist Church in Copperas Cove. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and brothers, “A.V.” Albert Freeman, Jr. and Joseph Winston Freeman. Betty is survived by her son, Keith Ballard, Sr. and wife Ann Jones-Ballard of Taylor; daughter, Sherry Birdsong of Copperas Cove; grandchildren Don Ballard, Jr. Reese Ballard, Keitha Bonham, Easton Birdsong, Mary Beth Jones, and Trisha Wells; 13 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson. In Lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
