Mary (Jo) Spradley

Mary Josephine Boswell Spradley, age 97, of Gatesville, passed away Thursday, August 17, 2017. Private family graveside services will be at Turnersville Cemetery. Mary was born on November 6, 1919 in Turnersville, Texas to the late Carey Homer Boswell and Hazel Evelyn Foote Boswell. She grew up and went to school in Turnersville, graduating from Turnersville High School in 1936. She married Nathan Weldon Spradley on June 19, 1937 at the home of her parents in Turnersville, Texas. They resided in Turnersville until moving to Angleton in 1952, residing there until moving back to Gatesville in 1984. She was a homemaker and a member of the Presbyterian Church. Her husband preceded her in death in 2005. She loved sewing, playing 42, and was active in the quilting club at the Gatesville Senior Center. Mary is survived by her sons, Stanley Bob Spradley and Ronnie Dale Spradley; daughter, Linda Kay Spradley Hawthorne Barnard; brother, Charlie Ray Boswell; sister, Bonnie Boots Coward Watson; six grandchildren, Wade Hawthorne, Shannon Hefner, Larry Spradley, Bo Spradley, Eddie Spradley and Mike Spradley; 20 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a grandchild, Seth Scott Hawthorne; daughters-in-law, Michelle Spradley and Rebecca Spradley; sons-in-law, Jimmy Hawthorne and Bob Barnard.
