Kathleen Blanchard

Kathleen (Palmer) Blanchard, age 87, of Gatesville, peacefully completed her earthly journey on Wednesday, August 23, 2017. Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 27, 2017, at 2:00 p.m., Scott’s Funeral Home, Gatesville. A private family interment will be held at Flint Creek Cemetery. Kathleen was born in Oglesby, Texas, February 17, 1930, the third of five daughters, to J. W. (Watt) and Undine Faucett Palmer. She grew up in the Owl Creek, Eagle Spring and Ewing Communities of Coryell County. Her younger years were spent on the farm, where she spent many hours in the field, plowing, hoeing and picking cotton. On August 23, 1947, Kathleen married Ralph Blanchard. They resided the majority of their married lives in Gatesville. She was an active member of Cold Springs Baptist Church and loved her church family. Kathleen retired after having worked 24 years in the Dietary Department of Coryell Memorial Hospital. When she had visitors at Hillside Medical Lodge, she loved to share the story that she cooked the very last meal for the sick at the “old” Coryell Memorial Hospital, located at Lutterloh in Gatesville, and cooked the very first meal for the sick at the current Coryell Memorial Hospital. She also loved to tell others that many of the hospital employees would ask her for the recipes of the dishes she served there. In addition to her love of cooking, Kathleen was a self-taught seamstress from a very early age. She was passionate about her family. Kathleen was a very generous and loving lady. She found her true happiness when serving others. Kathleen was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Blanchard; son, Felix Blanchard; parents; and sisters, Vinnie Murl Blanchard and Edith Blanchard. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Sharon Hartman and husband, Roy, Gloria Davidson and husband, Allan, and Janet Evetts, all of Gatesville; four grandchildren who were her pride and joy, Randon Jeffcoat and wife, Crystal, Misti Davidson Necessary and husband, Greg, Corey Evetts and wife, Ashleye, and Brittany Hartman Crosby and husband, Ben; and nine precious great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her two sisters whom she cherished, Joyce White and husband, Charles, of Tulia, Texas and Jo Marie Pope and husband, Tommy, of Gatesville. Our family wishes to express our sincere appreciation to the entire staff at Hillside Medical Lodge who so diligently took care of our Mother’s every need and loved her each day she was in their care. This was indeed a blessing to her and our entire family. For those so desiring, memorials may be made to Cold Springs Baptist Church, 7671 FM 929, Gatesville, TX 76528.
