Mary "Cat" Smith

Mary Catherine Smith, age 75, of Gatesville passed away surrounded by her family, on Wednesday, August 30, 2017. Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Saturday September 2, 2017 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel . Burial will follow at Greenbriar Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday September 1, 2017. Mary was born June 20, 1942 in Gatesville, TX to the late Robert and Estelle Sims Featherston. She attended school in Gatesville. Mary worked at the old Exxon on West Main across from the old Foxworth Building with her late husband Jack T. Smith for several years. Together they also enjoyed working on small engines. Jack and Mary were a team, working together as one on whatever the task may be. Mary loved reading her bible every morning and also working in her yard. Mary was preceded in death by her husband Jack; parents; and infant son. Mary is survived by daughter, Rebecca Otero; sons, Bud Beckett, Billy Beckett , Jimmy Beckett, Jack “Spook” Smith; sisters, Betty Hooker, Nancy Thompson, Martha James, Ruby Barnard and husband Michael; brothers, Robert Featherston and wife Linda, J.W. Featherston and wife Joan, John Featherston and wife Karon, Eldon Featherston and wife Cathy; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
