Wanda Jean Sims, age 88, of Gatesville, passed away Thursday, September 7, 2017. Graveside services will be at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, September 10, 2017 at Restland Cemetery with Rev. Perry Garrett officiating. There is no set time for visitation. Wanda was born on August 1, 1929 in McGregor, Texas to the late Lloyd Emmitt Ferguson and Vergie Grabner Ferguson. Her family moved to Milano when she was three years old because the family house had burned. She attended school in Milano and graduated from Milano High School in 1946. She was a member of the Baptist Church of Milano. In 1947, she married Clarence Sims in Rockdale. He worked for the railroad and they moved around until he went to work for Civil Service at Fort Hood from 1951 to 1973, residing mainly in Copperas Cove. They moved to the country in Adamsville in 1973, and then moved to Gatesville in 1990. She loved teddy bears and made many from old coat liners. She also enjoyed woodworking and quilting. Wanda had a furniture refinishing business for 19 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clarence Sims; and brother, Joseph Ferguson III. Wanda is survived by her cousin, Patricia Ann Schaffer of Austin, and close friends, Kenneth and Velva Riddle and family.
