Bob Thomson, age 73, of Gatesville, passed away suddenly at his home on Sunday, September 10, 2017. No services are scheduled at this time. Bob was born on April 11, 1944 in Gatesville, Texas. He attended high school at Harborcreek High School in Erie, Pennsylvania. He entered the US Army in 1963 and served his country for three years including service in Germany. He enjoyed playing golf at the Gatesville Country Club, camping at Owl Creek Park, and fishing was one of his favorite pastimes. He was also an avid hunter and an accomplished golfer. Nothing seemed to stop him. As an amputee, he was known as the One Armed Bandit, yet he always putted for par using only one arm, as his long-time friend, Reginald Brim, puts it. His love of his motorcycle riding was a lifelong passion that he continued doing into his seventies. He was a fun-loving, high-spirited man, only too happy to make someone laugh. He was a jokester at heart and he will be sadly missed by many. He was preceded in death by his wife, Annabelle; parents, Evelyn and James Curci; and brother, James Thomson. Bob is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Sweeney of Erie, Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Leann Nelson, Ryan Sweeney, and Allison Sweeney; four great-grandchildren; nephew, Marcus Thomson; and many friends, both in Gatesville and Hemphill, Texas.
