D. F. Powell, Jr.

D. F. Powell, Jr., age 84, of Gatesville, passed away Wednesday, September 13, 2017 in Temple. Visitation will be at Scott’s Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 16, followed by graveside services at 11:30 a.m. at Restland Cemetery. D.F. was born on June 30, 1933 in Conroe, to the late David Fletcher Powell, Sr. and Ruth Clawson Powell. He grew up in the Gatesville area and graduated from Gatesville High School in 1951. He married Lanelle Graham on August 9, 1952. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956, and the Texas Army National Guard. He was a mechanic at M.A.T.E.S., retiring in 1978 after 20 years of service. He was a member of Ft. Gates Church of Christ. D.F. is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Lanelle Powell; sons, Gary Powell and wife, Cindy and Kent Powell and wife, Andra; daughter, Lori McElhany and husband, Steve; grandson, Brad McElhany; granddaughters, Brittini Krcha and husband, John, Ashlee Bollier and husband, Tobe, Malorie Holladay and husband, Wes, Bethany McElhany, Kendra Pruitt and husband, Cody; nine great-grandchildren; and brother, Bruce Copeland and wife, Claire. Steve McElhany, Charles Graham, Larry Brazzil, Bill Hale, Brad McElhany, Jay Graham, Wes Holladay, John Krcha and Cody Pruitt will serve as pallbearers. The family would like to express their appreciation to the doctors and nursing staff at Baylor Scott & White Hospital and Coryell Memorial Home Health for their compassionate care.
