Laura Louise Lee Crenshaw, age 64 of Gatesville, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, Sep. 16, 2017 at her home while surrounded by family and friends. Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, Sep. 20, 2017 at Scott’s Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, Sep. 21, 2017 at the funeral home with her pastor from Providence Baptist Church in McLean, Virginia Rev. Tim Floyd officiating. Burial will be at Pearl Cemetery, followed by a luncheon for everyone at the Pearl Community Center. Lu was born on December 22, 1952 in San Angelo, Texas to Nelson and the late Joanne Robinson Lee. At the age of seven, the family moved to Gatesville, where she graduated from Gatesville High School in 1971. Immediately following graduation and being adventurous, Lu struck out for Yellowstone National Park with a friend to work on the park staff. On Feb. 4, 1978, Lu married US Army Captain Charles T. (Chuck) Crenshaw III assigned at Ft. Hood. The couple enjoyed the next 20 years making their home at Army posts / assignments including Ft. Benning, Ga; East Central University, Ada, OK; Ft. Leavenworth, KS; Schoefield Barracks and Honolulu, HI; and the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. They remained in the D.C. area until May 2013 when they came home to Gatesville. She was a member of Providence Baptist Church in McLean, Virginia and attended Mound Cowboy Church since moving to Gatesville. In addition to being a loving mother and wife, Lu found time and energy to work at a diversified array of jobs including surveyor, correctional officer, bus driver, real estate agent, volunteer math teacher and cartographer for General Dynamics providing critical mapping data to military operations worldwide. Over the same period, she obtained her Bachelor’s Degree from East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma and a Master’s Degree from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. A natural competitor, Lu loved the game of golf and she and Chuck played beautiful courses from the east coast to west coast and Hawaii. She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Chuck Crenshaw; father, Nelson Lee; daughter, Kay Tippit-Hunt and husband, Jared; son, Charles T. Crenshaw IV and wife, Christina; sister, Dionitia Parrish and husband, Donald; three grandchildren, Kelby Jones, Case Jones and Kagen Hunt. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been designated to Mound Cowboy Church, P.O. Box 103, Mound, TX 76558 or the American Cancer Society, 3919 E. Hwy. 84, Gatesville, TX 76528.
