Winston (Sonny) Barnes

Winston (Sonny) Barnes, of Evant, passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2017. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Monday, October 2, 2017 at the funeral home. Sonny was born on Union Hill Mt. near Belton, TX on October 23, 1933 to the late Elbert A. and Anna Louise West Barnes. In 1951, Sonny married Patsy Jo Farris in Ft. Worth, TX. Sonny served in the U.S. Army from 1952 – 1954. After his time in the Army, Sonny moved to Granbury where he owned and ran a post yard and fence building business. After 46 years of marriage, Sonny’s wife, Patsy, passed in 1997 and shortly after, he moved to the Evant area. Sonny was a lifelong Baptist, always having a membership at his local church. Sonny was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and brother, James Elton Barnes. Sonny is survived by his son, Earl Barnes and wife, Beverly; sister, Wanda Gray of Burleson, TX; grandson, Winston Luke Barnes and wife, Stephanie of Copperas Cove, TX, Drew Barnes and wife, Shelby of Ft. Worth, TX; great-grandchildren, Mollie, Macie, and Nathan Barnes.
