Paul M. Meek, age 79, of Gatesville, silently passed away surrounded by his family, on Monday, October, 19, 2009. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 A.M. Friday, October 23, 2009 at Scott’s Funeral Home. Burial, with military honors, will follow at 1:00 P.M. at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen. The family will receive visitors from 6-8:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Mr. Meek was born on January 26, 1930 in Decatur, TX to the late George Carl and Veda Lou Matheson Meek. Mr. Meek was involved in many activities. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, and became a member of the D.A.V. Paul served in the US Air force for thirteen years and was a member of the Texas Air National Guard and retired Civil Service after 35 years. In 1966 Paul was part owner, with Austin Tynes, of Action Helicopter which, in turn, became Saber Helicopter, and they specialized in cattle herding by helicopter. He was a Lieutenant Colonel in the Civil Air Patrol, and Commander of the 19th Air Wing, where he flew search and rescue missions. Paul was a Mason with the Harlendale lodge and a 32nd Degree Mason of the Flat Lodge. He belonged to the local CERTS group. He leaves many friends behind. Paul is survived by his wife of 57 years, Cherri Meek of Gatesville; daughters, Kimberly Meek Lombardi and husband Paul, and Toye J. Meek Grimes and husband Johnny Grimes; grandsons Seth Jacob Kirby and wife Blake DeeAnn and their daughter Payton Riley, Airman Sean Cary Kirby; step grandson, Nathan Allen Grimes; a sister, Barbara Kerr; and a brother, Don J. Meek. In Lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorials be made to the First Baptist Church of Gatesville Youth Ministry.
