Ira D. “Tex” Mattiza, age 88, of Coryell City, passed away Monday, November 27, 2017 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, November 30, 2017 at St. John Lutheran Church in Coryell City, with Pastor Christopher Richmann officiating. Burial will follow at St. John Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Scott’s Funeral Home. Tex was born on April 15, 1929 in Osage, Texas to the late Herman P. and Bertha Falkenberg Mattiza. After graduating from high school, he joined the US Air Force and retired after 20 years of service. Tex married Bettie Kate Dickie on May 11, 1952, and she preceded him in death in 2008. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Disabled American Veterans, and American Legion Post #273 in McGregor. He was also preceded in death by a son, Mickie Mattiza; brothers, Marvin Mattiza and Wilbur Mattiza; stepfather, Charlie Buth; and a great-granddaughter, Taylor Mattiza. Tex is survived by his son, Dann Mattiza and wife, Jean of Fort Walton Beach, Florida; daughter, Becky Hicks; six grandchildren, Eric Mattiza, Michael Mattiza, Chris Mattiza, Justin Mattiza, Marcus Hicks, Jennifer B. Hicks; several great-grandchildren to include his daily joy, Zoe, Gio, and Scarlett; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
