Marvin Dean Whittenburg, age 79, of Gatesville, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, December 10, 2017. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at Live Oak Baptist Church in Gatesville, with Bro. Ken Laney and Bro. Matt Dossey officiating. Burial will follow at Restland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 – 7 p.m., Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at Scott’s Funeral Home in Gatesville. Marvin Dean, known to many as PaPaw or Whitt, was born on February 4, 1938 in Gatesville, Texas to Marvin Earl and Bessie Clawson Whittenburg. He was born and raised in Leon Junction, Texas, attending school in Flat, Texas. He met and later married the love of his life, Jackie Bankhead, on October 13, 1956. Together they built a life and legacy that will be forever treasured. Marvin Dean and Jackie were blessed with four children, Randy, Nancy, Ricky, and Cindy. In their early years, they enjoyed rodeoing with their kids. He was an active member, serving as both Director and President, of the Gatesville Riding Club and the Central Texas Horse Show Association. He was also a member of the Gatesville Sheriff Posse. Soon after marriage and the start of their family, Marvin Dean went to work at Woodard Construction. Marvin Dean and Jackie later purchased Woodard’s, owning and operating it until their retirement in 2012. He loved heavy equipment and road construction, making many lifelong friends across the state of Texas in the industry. He was a member of the Association of General Contractors of Texas. Marvin Dean and Jackie had the honor of being chosen as the City of Gatesville’s Citizen of the Year in 2013. Once retired, Marvin Dean enjoyed being a member of the Gatesville RV Club, he loved his camping trips in his motorhome. He was the biggest fan his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids had, and enjoyed spending as much time with them as he could. He was preceded in death by his parents; Earl and Bessie Whittenburg; parents-in-love, Jack and Eunice Bankhead; brother and sister-in-love, Horace and Bobbie; brother-in-love, Billy Wayne; and his great-grandson, Max Warren Moffett. Marvin Dean is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jackie Whittenburg; children and children-in-love, Randy Whittenburg, Donnie and Nancy Warren, Ricky and Stacy Whittenburg, Cindy and Jimmy Basham, and Beverly Beckner; 13 grandchildren and their spouses, Ryan, Amy and Daniel, Dee and Jason, Erin and Cody, Landi and Bob, Jason and Whitney, Whitney and Barrett, Mikka and Frankie, Misty and David, Dana and Jason, Chelsea and Coty, Mallorie and Toby, and Ashley; and 18 great-grandchildren, Caylee Dean, Miguel, Tatum, Caydon, Emily, Journey, Brody, Aubrey, Caitlynn, Paydon, Sofee, Cannon, Lucas, Cal, Jace, Kylan, and Hunter, with two more on the way.
