John Gilbert Meadows, age 73, of Arlington, passed away Sunday, December 10, 2017 in Arlington, TX. He died holding his daughters’ hands, as he “saddled up and rode off to the spirit land.” Graveside services will be 2:30 p.m., Friday, December 15, 2017 at Restland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 15, 2017 at Scott’s Funeral Home, 2425 E. Main, Gatesville, TX. John was born on July 24, 1944 in Gatesville, Texas to the late Marshall Meadows and Myrtle McCrary Meadows. John graduated from Lorena High School, and then entered the US Navy, serving in the Vietnam War. After his service in the Navy, he attended Texas A&M University and graduated with a Master’s Degree in Animal Science. He was a rancher for many years before moving to Dallas to pursue a long career in real estate banking. His career moved him to St. Petersburg Florida, where he later retired as an Executive from USAA. John lived out his retirement years in Texas. He spent time in Tyler and Arlington to be close to his daughters and grandchildren. John spent his free time pursuing many volunteer opportunities. His love for ranching finally led him to Axtell, Texas, where he had a small farm. John was a generous, fun and loving man. He was a caring and nurturing father and grandpa. He was a cowboy at heart, a veteran who loved his country, but his greatest attribute was his kindness and willingness to help others. He was preceded in death by his parents; Marshall and Myrtle Meadows; brother, Jim Meadows; and niece, Brenda. John is survived by his daughters, Holly Bolduc and husband, David and Courtney Johnson and husband, Derek; five grandchildren, Ryker, Colton, Maximillian, Meadow, and Gavin; sister, Martha Howe and husband, Jerry; and many nieces and nephews.
