Joyce Edwards, age 86 of Gatesville, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Sunday, December 17, 2017. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Gene Gurley officiating. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will follow at Restland Cemetery. Joyce was born on January 2, 1931 in West, Texas to the late Robert and Jo McClure Howell. She grew up in Gatesville and graduated from Gatesville High School in 1948. She attended North Texas State University until marrying Dan Edwards on September 16, 1951. After their marriage, she followed her husband during his professional football career in New York, Baltimore, Dallas, and Canada. In 1962, they moved back to Gatesville, where they owned and operated Dan Edwards Oil Company for almost 40 years, retiring in 2000. She was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church, where she was active member of the choir, treasurer and served on numerous committees. She was a volunteer for the Coryell Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and Coryell County Museum. She was an avid bridge player and member of two local bridge clubs. The “loves of her life” were her family, music, playing cards, and Rancher’s cheeseburgers. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dan Edwards in 2001; son, Marshall Edwards in 1968; and sister, Martha Ann Donaldson. She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Chasteen and husband, Brad of Waco; sister, Judy McClesky of Gatesville; four grandchildren, Clint Chasteen and wife, Bree, Lauren Cook and husband, Trevor, Lindsey Chasteen, Kelly Chasteen; three great-grandchildren, Hayden Marie, Avery Erin and Reese Jordan Cook; and several nieces and nephews.
