Roy Farney

Roy Clark Farney, age 73, of Gatesville, passed away Tuesday, January 2, 2018. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Daniel Crowther officiating. Burial will follow at Greenbriar Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service. Roy Clark Farney was born on May 25, 1944 to Felix and Maude Thrasher Farney in Marlin, Texas. He was the “Baby Brother” of Imogene and Darden. He spent his childhood days in Golinda, the son of a “Blackland Farmer.” Roy would be on the tractor, and he was so little he couldn’t reach the clutch, so brother, Darden, would run up behind and jump on it in order to stop the tractor! Roy attended Chilton Schools. He then pursued a career in tool and die, beginning with employment at Texas Instruments in Arlington. Roy married Sherry Clay on July 3, 1963. His first born, his son, Rodney Clark, was born on December 29, 1965 in Irving. They then moved back to Golinda, built a home, and soon after had their daughter, Stacey Lanell, on July 13, 1970. In 1977, Roy moved his family to Gatesville. He worked for Johnny Stewart Game Calls until 1985. He then purchased his first injection molding machine and stepped out to run his own business, Farney Machine & Tool, which was right in his backyard. Roy was very successful, he was very precise and thrived on perfection in his work. On November 26, 1987, Roy married his love, Donna Allison. They enjoyed an adventurous, wondrous life and they loved each other unconditionally until August 10, 2005, when she was tragically taken from him to await the “reuniting” that undoubtedly took place the night Roy’s soul left this earth. Last, but farthest form the least, is his sweet little dog, Sissy, his true companion for the past 12 years. They had each other after the passing of Donna. Roy loved that little dog and she loved him! Roy enjoyed going to the lake, he loved to waterski, only on one ski!! Taking off from the bank, as well as ending up skiing right into the bank at the end of his run. He was a real challenge when it came to Ping Pong, always being the top winner at any challenge at the Christmas Gatherings. Roy absolutely loved spending time at “The Cabin” in Colorado and every year taking the annual hunting trip with the Johnson’s. Just as well, he enjoyed the ski trips to Crested Butte with family and friends. He also enjoyed going gambling with Imogene, Connie Joe, and his cousin, Donnie. Roy and Sissy would travel to Imogene’s to have lunch and hang out! He was preceded in death by his parents, Felix and Maude Farney; and tragically widowed way too soon, by his loving wife, Donna Allison Farney. Roy is survived by his son, Rodney Clark Farney and his children, Randi Cheyenne Farney, Riley Suzanne Farney, and Lucas Clark Farney; daughter, Stacey Lanell Farney Blackman and her children, Sage Moon Blackman and Noah Sun Scruggs; sister, Imogene “Big Sister” Allen and husband, Connie Joe; and brother, Darden Farney and wife, Linda. Memorials may be made to Greenbriar Cemetery Association, 2470 Greenbriar Rd., Gatesville, TX 76528.
