Waldeen Kuykendall

Waldeen Kuykendall, 93, of Gatesville, passed away Sunday, January 14, 2018. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 19, 2018 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeff Huckeby officiating. Burial will follow at Restland Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Thursday, January 18, 2018 at the funeral home. Waldeen was born on January 27, 1924 in Hurst Springs, Texas to Walter Reuell and Jessie Hunt. She was the oldest of five children. She had two brothers, who both died as children, and two sisters, Elizabeth and Margaret. She married Robert Dorman Kuykendall from Hamilton, Texas in March 1941 in Mineral Wells, Texas. Before his death on February 10, 1967, at the age of 45 years, they had nine children. On July 15, 1945, she had her first child, a son named Bobby, 17 months later she had her first daughter, Sue, in December 1946, followed by another daughter 16 months later, Carol born in April 1948. She then had two more boys, Matt in October 1949 and Kenneth in October 1951. Less than two years later, she had a daughter named Anita in June 1953 and then her youngest son, Donny, was born in Gatesville in May 1956. Thinking her family was complete six years later, she had a daughter, Rita Kay, born in November 1962, who passed away at the age of 12 years. Eighteen months later, she had another daughter, Ann, the youngest and last, born on the same date of her oldest son Bobby on July 15, 1964, exactly 19 years later. She was preceded by her parents; husband; sons, Matt and Donny Kuykendall; daughter, Rita Kay Kuykendall; two brothers; grandsons, Robert Dale Kuykendall and Kirk Kuykendall; granddaughter, Misty Lynn McLain; and great-grandson, Billy Don Kuykendall. Her survivors include her sons, Bobby Kuykendall and Kenneth Kuykendall; daughters, Suzy Harris, Carol Stith, Anita McLain, and Ann Powell; two grandchildren; sisters, Elizabeth Harris and Margaret Winters; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
