Rachel Ortega, age 78, of McGregor, passed away Monday, January 15, 2018 in Gatesville. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m., January 20, 2018 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 2308 N Valley Mills Dr., Waco, Texas. Visitation with the family will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, January 19th at Scott’s Funeral Home in Gatesville. Rachel was born on December 30, 1939 in Gatesville, to the late Lee Ortega, Sr. and Anita Fernandez. She grew up in Gatesville and graduated from Flat High School in 1958. She graduated from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in 1962 with a B.A. in Education. She taught elementary students in Guam, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and in Texas at Copperas Cove and Midway I.S.D. retiring in 2004 after 17 years with the district. She was a member of the Richland Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Waco. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, infant Johnny Ortega, Raymond Ortega; and sister, Sarah Garcia. She is survived by her daughters, Rosella Bond and husband, Michael, Anita Lemmon and husband, Sean; sons, Charles Petrella, Ryan Bass; sisters, Leonora Esparza, Frances Menchaca, Gloria Veazey; brothers, Jesse Ortega, Gilbert Ortega, Lee Ortega and Daniel Ortega; nine grandchildren, Erica Montalvan, Jameson and Ashton Bond, Lauren Luedke, Austin Lemmon, Abigail and Anna Petrella, Madelyn and Brooklyn Bass; and one great-granddaughter, Eriana Rose Montalvan.
