Cordie Mae Dillard

Cordie Mae (Farr) Dillard, age 91, transitioned peacefully into eternal life January 18, 2018, in Katy, Texas after a brief illness. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., Monday, January 22, 2018 at Scott’s Funeral Home. Visitation on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 will be from 8:30 -10:00 a.m., followed by procession to Pearl Cemetery for graveside services at 10:30 a.m., officiated by Guy L. (Buddy) Harrelson, pastor and longtime family friend. Mother will be interred next to Dad on that beautiful hill overlooking the Pearl countryside! Cordie was born on August 21, 1926, near Coolidge, Texas to the late Willie Mae and Hosea Farr, she was the 4th of their 11 children. The family worked on several farms in the panhandle and in central Texas. She was the first in her family to attend college. She received a Bachelor’s in Education degree from Wayland Baptist College and later received her Master’s in Education from Abilene Christian College. Cordie was a caring, devoted, career educator who taught in several districts in Texas including Seminole, Andrews and Midland. After relocating to Michigan to support her husband’s work, with Shell Oil Company in 1973, she continued her career in Kingsley, Monroe Center and Traverse City. Her time in Monroe Center was spent teaching in a one room schoolhouse, where much of her free time was occupied visiting her students in their homes to become familiar with their home lives. Cordie positively impacted the lives of countless students during the 52 years of dedicated service. Cordie loved the Lord and volunteered her time to His service her entire life. She was a member of the Andrews Church of Christ and later Golf Course Road Church of Christ in Midland. She was active in church leadership for many years at The First Christian Church in Traverse City, Michigan. Cordie was a beautiful woman who enjoyed fashion, classical music, reading, painting, and traveling. She was an excellent cook and shared her love of food with her grateful family especially during the holidays. Thanksgiving and Christmas were extra special times at Grandma Dillard’s house!!!! For 62 years, Cordie was the beloved wife and only love of Joe Burt Dillard, Sr., who went to be with the Lord on January 5, 2016. She was preceded in death by brothers, W.H, James, Clark, and Kenneth Farr and sisters, Naomi Hieght, Shirley Funk, Betty Beckner, Mickey Beckner, Billie Smith and Vonda Shaw. Cordie was a loving mother to sons, Joe Jr. and wife, Elise of Katy, Texas and Charles and wife, Ann of Greer, South Carolina. She was extremely proud of her grandchildren, Dani (Billy) Cronauer, Laura (Jennings) Berry, Beka (Taylor) Gross, Jacob (Shannon) Dillard, and Bradley Dillard. She adored and cherished her great-grandchildren, Brinley and Harper Cronauer, Matthew and Mackenzie Berry, and Bowen Gross. She will be forever missed, but the knowledge we have of her being present in Heaven with the Lord and those who went before her gives us great comfort beyond comprehension! The family is very grateful for the various communications of remembrances, thoughts and prayers from extended family, dear friends and acquaintances. We would also like to especially thank the faithful team at Vantage Hospice of Katy, TX and Rose’s Retreat for the compassionate loving care they provided for Mother in her last days and hours, God Bless you all!
